Julia Cady Cottage Garden Designs
My Work
- Completed projects in my portfolio include:
- Three quintessential country gardens (from scratch) for three thatched cottages – one centuries old, the other two brand new but traditional in style
- A compact, densely planted courtyard garden, designed to give an elderly client with limited mobility year-round pleasure from her conservatory windows
- An ‘instant transformation’ of a new mews house by generous planting of a rear courtyard to form a leafy retreat with interest in every month of the year
- A large and varied, new ‘plantsman’s garden’ for an 18th-century malt house, including traditional cottage borders, a wildlife garden, kitchen, fruit and cutting gardens, and a greenhouse
- A garden for a newly built house on an awkwardly shaped plot, using mainly planting solutions to give the impression of a re-shaped garden
- Several planting schemes to soften the impact of new buildings and extensions (sometimes to accompany planning applications)
- A scheme to create a softer and more intimate setting for a 1980s house
- Complete designs for two different building plots, enabling earth-moving works for house and garden to be done simultaneously, saving on costs and disruption
